Birding

There is so much to see and do in this corner of North Carolina, but we'd be amiss if we didn't remind you to stop, look, and listen.  The mountains, streams, forest, and protected lands provide a diverse and beautiful array of winged creatures to see.

There are many local resources and groups in the area that provide a calendar of events, maps for birding, migration route info, and more. Be sure to check the best locations & trails, lists of local sightings, and more.

We don't want to brag ... well, maybe a little ... but Hinterlander offers several great spots for setting up binoculars, cameras, and whatever else you need in your perfect birdwatching perch.

1) Hinterlander's vast, open patio provides a spectacular birding HQ overlooking our slice of Pisgah and our border with the Linville Gorge.

2) The covered side deck (just to the left of the stone patio) provides a shadier spot that will offer protection from the sun & elements.

3) The wall of 2-story windows, skylights, and full glass doors, and oversized windows in Hinterlander's great room give you the ultimate inside luxury for birding. You can do it from the couch, next to the fireplace, and while still in your PJs if you like.
